The Nader Family Trust
The Robert A. and Nancy M. Nader Trust
Also known as
The Nader Family Trust
Robert A. Nader, born in 1928, was a lifelong resident of Warren, Ohio who practiced law in that city and served in elected office as councilman at-large, state representative and common pleas and court of appeals judge.
Bob Nader was the son of Lebanese Maronite immigrants, N. J. and Emily Nader, who arrived in Trumbull County after starting their family in Waterville, Maine and New Castle, Pennsylvania. Bob was the youngest of six children. His siblings were Joseph, Rachel (Farrah), Louise (Khourey), Genevieve (Shaker), and Paul. Paul G. Nader was his partner in their law practice.
Robert Nader was active in a range of civic organizations and athletic pursuits during his long life in Warren. His earliest notoriety was as an all-Ohio football player with Warren Harding High School. After higher education at Case Western Reserve University and military service, upon his return, he became a careful student of the history of the city, its families, and institutions. Whether fighting corruption around city hall, developing area infrastructure, adjudicating cases in court, or sponsoring legislation to protect the public interest, Bob Nader went beyond reflection and observation and created a better city than he found.
In later life, with the support and interest of Nancy M. Nader, his wife of many years, Robert Nader established a family trust that would, upon his passing, take up good works on behalf of the citizens of Warren and the Mahoning Valley, as well as his nephews and nieces and his other descendants. Nancy Nader, alumna of Youngstown State University and Westminster College, was a career teacher in the Youngstown Public Schools and, later, on staff with the Butler Institute of American Art. The Trust is directed by Nancy M. Nader, Emilie Kawas, Louis H. Khourey, and Paul Shaker.
In addition to educational support for younger members of the Nader family, the Nader Family Trust embarked in 2020 on programs of philanthropy for local charities and the fostering of greater public awareness of the cultural institutions and history of the Mahoning Valley. Robert A. Nader had a full and productive life and has left a legacy of support for others and the public interest. In anticipation of a time when he no longer could serve society and his family in person, Judge Nader created this Trust to continue his work and represent his values.
